Markus Fahrner is a versatile graphic designer with over 15 years experience. His graphic design has carried him around the globe. From creating a stunning exhibition display for a church organization in Frankfurt Germany, to working on newspaper ads in Uganda and packaging design for Leading Brands a Vancouver based beverage company, to creating labels for Peller Estates in Canada. He has given a talk on Book Art at the Berkeley Museum of Art. For 3 years he Designed the Alcuin Society’s Canadian Design Award catalogues. He updated the University of British Columbia’s (SALA) School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture's web site. Design is all around us. If design does not work, it is simply lost in a sea of images. Markus makes design stand out. He assists in communication and turns strategies and product ranges into visual highlights. If you drive through the City of Port Coquitlam, you can see his banners throughout the City, just look up. When not helping clients to translate their complex communication wishes into physical results, he works as a visual artist and supports the cultural arts. As well as being a Rotarian; he is a Board member of Leigh Square Community Arts Centre and Director at Large of the Alcuin Society. Markus is located in Port Moody, BC where his graphic design studio is situated. FahrnerDesignWorks creates banners, posters, flyers and booklets. Markus loves to work on longer book projects, his latest project is the Military Service Recognition book published by the Legion BC/Yukon Command. More than just doing the layout, Markus did the entire graphic direction of the project and was closely involved in the editorial content. Markus was born in Frankfurt Germany. He attended university in Oxford (BA Honours) and Southampton (post grad). During his time at university he joined the Oxford University Officers Training Corps. After working for Blackwells Scientific in Oxford; he travelled by motorbike through West Africa. He is married with two children. In 2008 the entire family immigrated to Vancouver. Since early childhood Markus has been involved in creating art. Working for his mother; world famous and prominent German Book Artist, Barbara Fahrner, he has been working on book fairs - ranging from Frankfurt - London, all the way to San Francisco. Markus has created artist books which can be found in the collections of the Library of Congress Wash., DC, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, SFU special collections and many other places. In 2010 he purchased and set up a letterpress print workshop; Heritage Mountain Press. In the past he co-founded a cross-cultural Church coalition in Frankfurt, Germany; which organized and initialized many local events; incorporating community, urban planning and Christian values. As a community leader; this position/relationship allowed him to organize the shipment of hospital equipment to Africa. Markus is one member of the Port Moody Station Museum McKnight trench. Together with six other members he has dug a Great War trench and gives tours to the public; with the hope of instructing the community, especially the youth, about the significance of remembrance and the importance of averting all wars. Markus has been instrumental in arranging events and school tours in the trench. Markus joined the Port Coquiltam Rotary club and has been very involved in their various activities. He is the editor of the club’s newsletter and has been elected as Vice president.
